As for what happened to Karen? Well, this was the end of that little story arc, and I prefer to leave it up to people's imaginations. Did Miranda eventually take pity on her and change her back to normal? Or did she let go of the string so that she floated away? It's a mystery...

Although given that Karen shows up again, it can be assumed that whatever happened, she got back to normal safely. But she does seem a bit skittish around Miranda since then...
